Consider investing in a pool as a part of your custom home or custom renovation. The addition of a pool creates not only a beautiful focal feature, but provides a sensational getaway every time you arrive at home. When you are planning your pool design, think about your favorite vacation spot and all the reasons you love being there. Make a list of those reasons and include in your planning. Incorporating some of these ideas and artistic designs into your custom home and pool planning, or custom renovation and pool planning can result in the creation of your own personal vacation getaway that you will get to enjoy every day.

  2. Custom Home Building Trends for 2015

According to Phil Hughes, owner of the Luxury Home Building Company, P.R. Hughes, the following trends are prevalent in our upcoming custom homes for 2015.

      1. Kitchen/Family Room Living Areas Open to Outdoor Living-
Open floor plans have long been on trend, but with the addition of accordion door units, the kitchen and family room are now being melded with Outdoor Living. Pools, screened porches with outdoor fireplaces and outdoor kitchens are connected both for entertaining and for everyday enjoyment.
      1. Home Command Centers-
With the popularity of smart phones, tablets, and Wi-Fi, we see more clients looking to combine the home office, laundry center and drop zone. Instead of 3 separate rooms, clients are asking for one large laundry room, adjacent or visible from the kitchen, that provides space for book bags, a charging station for electronics, and counter height work stations that double as folding tables for laundry.
      1. Freestanding Tubs-
Sleek new designs offered by companies like Kohler provide a new level of sophistication in master and secondary baths.
      1. Circular Staircases-
Adding a touch of drama and elegance, circular or winding staircases are being requested more frequently from our clients, says Phil Hughes, owner of the Luxury Home Building Company, P.R. Hughes. According to our responses from our website photos and requests from our customers when designing their plans, customers value them as an upscale focal point, especially in the foyer entry.
    1. Dual Master Suites-
Having more than one master suite, especially on the main level, allows for greater flexibility for multiple generations. It provides a comfortable space for guests or family, long term or short term.

When searching for a wall piece to hang in the reception area of the PR Hughes office, Phil looked to local artist, Kirk Davis. Kirk was able to and create and design an interesting and unique wall sculpture to represent the company. He has been designing and sculpting unique architectural pieces for over a decade.

Support for local artists is something that is very important to Phil Hughes, PR Hughes Custom Home Builder, Charlotte, North Carolina. After all, designing and building a custom home or custom renovation requires many designers and trades, all artists in their own right.

  5. Green Building, Energy Star 3.0 and Self-Sustainability All in One

Since the energy efficient construction keeps power usage reduced to a minimum, the solar panels provide all the energy needed to power the home. The result is complete energy independence.

Having had experience building one of the first 2.0 Energy Star Homes in North Carolina in 2005, I was intrigued when this opportunity presented itself. Green building and 3.0 Energy Star Construction is appealing to me as a responsible builder. Incorporating the self-sustained component compliments the home perfectly. Building an energy efficient home cost roughly 8-15% more than building a baseline custom home. For anyone planning to remain in his or her home, the return on investment begins almost immediately.

phil-hughesConstruction on this home began in 2010 and even with the complex nature of the build and additional requirements; the home was completed in 11 months. Since the energy efficient construction keeps power usage reduced to a minimum, the solar panels provide all the energy needed to power the home. The result is complete energy independence.
